Jan Steffen Bechtold

was born 1972 in Worms (Germany). As a teenager he started playing the organ and founded his first choir, the "Ecumenical Youth Choir".
In Salzburg he studied Musicology and Church Music with Hans Josef Knaust (organ) and Prof. Janos Czifra (choir-conducting). His teacher in Directing Symphonic Wind Orchestras was Hans Ebner. Four years Jan was conductor of the "Eisenbahner-Musikverein Salzburg". From 1998 to 2006 he directed the Church Choirs of Hof near Salzburg, St. Vitalis and Elsbethen.
In the "Bach-Year" 2000 Jan Steffen Bechtold founded his Jubilate Choir Salzburg. The singers come from the whole Salzburg area and from Munich and sing as mixed choir under his direction 3-4 musical projects each year.
In February 2010 Jan has been appointed as Head of the Choir Directors of the Flachgau District by the President of the Salzburg Choir Society.
With his Jubilate-Choir he founded the International MESSIAH-Festival Salzburg, which has been taken place every year in spring since 2011 (www.messiah-salzburg.at)
